Advertiser, incorporating the Bicester Review, Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, UK

A CALL for people in Buckingham to become otter spotters has received an overwhelming response.

The Buckingham Community Wildlife Project appealed for helpers to join them and monitor local numbers of the creature following recent evidence of increasing numbers of otters in the Buckingham area.

So far, 36 people have responded to the call and will be attending training courses across the area over the next few weeks. Special events for the new otter spotters have been organised on March 5 and 9.

The new spotters will be looking for evidence of otter activity near the River Great Ouse in Buckingham once a month.

Otters can now be found in several places upstream near Bedford, and one has been recorded on the west side of Buckingham, meaning the animal must have passed through the town.
