The Wild Life Crime Control Bureau with its four regional offices at
New Delhi Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai and three sub regional offices
have been made operational since last three months. The Bureau has coordinated
with various agencies in seizure of 32 otter skins and arrests, near
Panipat, Haryana and Gastropod shells attempted export as Mother of Pearl
in costume made jewelry in Mumbai.It also facilitated seizure and arrest
of schedule I & IV gastropod at Delhi and one leopard skin at Dharamtola,
Kolkata More than 320 bags of Sassurea lappa, a scheduled species of
Medicinal Plan in Wild Life (Protection) Act 1972 has been seized at
Delhi
The Bureau is examining the cases of Star Tortoise smuggling detected
at Mumbai and Chennai Air ports and Red Sanders smuggling to Nepal and
gathering intelligence in this field.
Training of various central enforcement agencies at exit points-CISF,
BSF, ITBP, SSB, DRI has been being organized at Wild Life Institute of
India. It will commence from 4th of next month.
Besides this, Training Workshop with National Tiger Conservation Authority
and TRAFFIC is being organized for three days at Bandhavagrh from 23rd
of this month.
A programme to educate international tourists to decrease demand for wildlife
and its products is being finalized with Ministry of Tourism.
The Bureau will soon release a manual/guide for enforces on Red Sanders.
