SEATTLE (AP) - One of the Seattle aquarium's sea otters was euthanized Thursday because of serious intestinal problems, officials said.

The otter, named Calypso, was lethargic and non-responsive at feeding time Wednesday afternoon. The aquarium said staff members took her to Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo, where an exploratory surgery determined that the intestinal tract was not operating properly and could not be surgically repaired.

The suspected cause was a shut-off of the blood supply to the bowel.

Calypso, a female, was sent to the aquarium after she was found as a pup in July 2003 on a remote beach near Cordova, Alaska - apparently abandoned by her mother.
